As Virtual Art Department Supervisor at DNEG on Masters of the Air (Apple TV+), I oversaw the creation of high-fidelity digital assets and environments for on-set LED wall shoots, ensuring seamless integration with physical sets and full-scale aircraft builds. These sequences recreate Tafaraoui Airfield in Algeria during the North African campaign of 1943, a key staging point for the U.S. Eighth Air Force before their deployment to England.
Every aspect of the digital B-17s — from battle damage and squadron markings to subtle identifying features — was crafted with meticulous accuracy, informed by mission flight logs, archival photographs, and even personal diaries and after-action reports from airmen stationed at the base. Built for real-time playback in Unreal Engine, these environments provided cast and crew with immersive, photoreal backdrops that elevated cinematography and enhanced performances through in-camera VFX.
